Many moons ago I read about Laika* in a children’s book called ‘Laika in between the stars’. It absolutely captivated me. It told the story of Laika but als shed light on other animals who heroically helped and saved humans. Her bravery and loyalty found a place in my heart and a few years ago I started to design a couple pieces inspired by the little dog.  I couldn’t get it right so I put it aside until the I began working on the ‘Stardust’ collection.

With her valience, and also the love I have for my own dogs, in mind I created a delicate portrait of Laika in the form of these earrings. They are meant to honour her courage and to remind us of the pure love and resilliance of man’s most loyal companion.

These earrings are handmade out of fine and sterling silver. They feature vibrant Montana Agate hearts and the most captivating Star Obsidian droplets.
Each earring weights about 11 grams and is worn on a silver post with push back closure.

*On November 3rd 1957 a stray dog from Moscow Russia, named Laika, was send into space on the satellite Sputnik 2. She became the first ever living creature to orbit Earth. Unfortunately she passed away during her journey in space. Laika’s flight paved the way for human space travel.

STARDUST
